She attributes a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fox45now.com\/shared\/news\/top-stories\/stories\/wrgt_vid_25451.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">mold infestation in her apartment<\/a> as the cause of her chest and joint pains.<\/p>\n<p>Trouble began in spring 2014 when Linda McCleskey moved into her current apartment and discovered water leaks, a situation she says also occurred in another apartment she rented in the same building. McCleskey <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sternmold.com\/blog\/2015\/03\/23\/property-managers-need-to-keep-an-eye-out-for-mold\/\" target=\"_blank\">reported the damage<\/a>, but began suffering from unexplained pain.<\/p>\n<p>This past March, McCleskey&#8217;s daughter Latricia Newberry was visiting when she dropped an item behind a nightstand. Upon pulling\u00a0it away from the wall, she discovered an extensive mold infestation. Newberry immediately notified the building manager and drove her mother to the emergency room.<\/p>\n<p>A mold treatment specialist, accompanied by the news crew from a local TV station, visited the apartment with a moisture meter to locate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sternmold.com\/blog\/2014\/10\/13\/moisture-mold-three-prevention-tips\/\" target=\"_blank\">sources of water<\/a> and identify mold. While he was able to confirm that the substance Newberry discovered was indeed mold, lab testing is required to determine if it is toxic black mold.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, McCleskey&#8217;s physician at Five Rivers Health Center has recommended that she undergo a lung biopsy. He has also written a letter confirming that she must find a new residence due to the detrimental effect of the mold.
